The Price

I’ve been creating a series of novels with a recurring theme: the price of the life we desire. (You can get yourself a chapter right here.) They explore relationships, career choices, and feeling right in your own skin. It’s a theme that has woven through nearly every choice I’ve made in my adult life.

[In my work with clients, we often start here. Right after nailing down goals and desires, we clarify what it will take to get there.]

We pay for our addictions to sugar, alcohol and Netflix in physical health.

We pay for our judgments, resentments and blame in emotional health.

We pay for our stockpiles of stuff  in financial health.

So few want to admit the price for those things that we convince ourselves are necessary comforts. And even fewer want to pay for resolution.

I know many people who insist on having the latest gadgetry, but would never consider buying organic food.

I know many people who claim to prefer death over giving up their nightly glass(es) of wine.

I know many people who wear their grievances like a life-vest, convinced it gives them value and worth.

It’s hard to watch. Especially when help is so accessible.

Sometimes the price for the life you want is releasing the life you currently have. Even Joseph Campbell thinks so.

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Joseph Campbell

It’s expensive, I admit. Sometimes it can seem impossibly so. Which is why so many of us feel stuck in situations we don’t want to be in. Stuck in lives that don’t allow us to experience our inherent joy.

So, I ask you, my friend, what is so valuable to you that you’d be willing to pay any price? What vision for your life is so compelling that it will fuel your progress past any obstacle?

Start there. It will be well worth it.

If I can be a guide, a support, a source of propulsion towards what you desire, please let me know. You can schedule some one-to-one time right here. And it’s not nearly as expensive as you think.

P.S. The Facebook Live broadcasts are back on, after a brief hiatus. Tune in Wednesday noon eastern when we’ll talk about what it costs to get the life you want.
