New Year. For Real

Now that the confetti and pine needles have been cleared…
Now that the flurry of holidays and celebrations seems long ago…
Now that all those good intentions and certain promises no longer compel or inspire…
Now what?
I love the momentum of a new calendar page or ritual to inspire the changes I know I should be making. But when all the hooplah and excitement are gone, what will keep us all moving forward?
One of my favorite lines is controversially attributed to either Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln. It doesn’t matter to me who said it, only that someone captured a sentiment much more eloquently than I could have ever done:
Success is going from failure to failure
without losing your enthusiasm.
It’s especially important in those valleys that inevitably appear in between our peak experiences. It’s the key to resilience.
What have you committed to?
What excited or inspired you that is now feeling out of your reach?
What feels like you’ve already failed?
Spend a moment to reconnect with whatever drew you to your wish or desire. Let the enthusiasm tickle you. Then go out and remember a new moment is just as important as a new year or a new day.
Sending you love and laughs and secret wishes that make you smile to yourself.
